After graduating in 1977 as a Petroleum Technologist, Ken Shewchenko started working full time in the oil servicing industry with Dowell of Canada.
His field experience in the drilling and well servicing sector includes: cementing, stimulation, coil tubing, packer systems, N2, CO2, program development and wellsite supervision. This experience was gained while being stationed in Alberta and British Columbia, the Arctic, off shore East Coast and the Middle East.
In 1990, Ken began instructing BOP Well Service and Drilling courses. Discovering a passion for teaching, with a desire to excite an interest in oilfield workers toward a better understanding of their career choice and ultimately better performance. Since then, Ken has had the pleasure of instructing hundreds of students, and in doing so, found that his technique for teaching important and sometimes complicated information was resulting in a greater understanding and a higher retention of the information.
Ken teaches to the level of the classroom, using entertaining and humorous delivery methods with illustrations, photos, in a common oilfield language. He is often heard to say, “there will be no student left behind” and maintains this by working diligently with the class as a whole and promoting a “team concept,” but is sure to find the time with individuals to ensure their understanding of the course material.
Ken’s passion and skill in delivering these programs often results in students commenting that they wish the course was longer because they learned so much about their job and that they had a blast being in the class.
